Grace Episcopal Church welcomes new organist

MARTINEZ, Calif. – Grace Episcopal Church in Martinez recently hired a new organist and choirmaster. Alfred Gary Evans comes to the church from Bantam, Connecticut.

Evans studied at the Hartt School of Music, West Hartford, Connecticut, where he won awards for music theory and composition. He continued at Hartt College of Music and on to the University of Connecticut, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering and business. He then completed graduate work at the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, earning an MBA in business administration.

Besides his organist position, Evans is employed at the Bio-Rad Laboratories in Hercules, where he is Director of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance.

The choir sings a mix of modern and traditional anthems plus original compositions created especially for Grace Choir. Instrumentalists are occasionally featured.

“We encourage young singers to join us,” Evans said.

The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. and sings Sunday morning services at 10 a.m. For further information, call (925) 876-5370.
