‘In a democracy, people get the government they deserve’

Dear Editor,

The update of the Martinez General Plan is happening right now. Comments from us citizens can be sent in through Oct. 29. You have to comment now to see your input have any meaning in the final result – a result that will determine building and development in Martinez for the next 20-30 years.

It is daunting to think about reading and understanding the Plan, BUT YOU DON’T HAVE TO. What you do have to do is SAY WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE and WHAT YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE in our town, and ask the City Council to make the Plan ensure that.

See the Facebook page Martinez General Plan Forum, for some comments you can use if you want. But start noting your own right now! You can post your comments to the Facebook page too. We will be posting new information on it also.

The same City Council that has made a number of controversial decisions in the past will be voting on the Plan. If we do not speak up, the General Plan will not be the roadmap we want for the next 20-30 years.

The citizen task force never came close to completing its job, and was essentially disbanded last year. It is up to us to give our leaders input now.

You must say something to make any difference.

E-mail comments to Dina Tasini at dtasini@cityofmartinez.org. Note in the Subject line: General Plan Comments. I suggest you copy the City Council (rschroder@cityofmartinez.org, mross@cityofmartinez.org, ldelaney@cityofmartinez.org, amafarias@cityofmartinez.org, dmckillop@cityofmartinez.org).

It is said that “In a democracy, people get the government they deserve.” Let’s do all we can to make sure we get the General Plan we deserve.
