John Kleber creates ‘dashing’ ice rink art

John Kleber (at right) of ARTU4iA and art student Hannah de Vries, stand in front of a dasher board at the ice rink in downtown Martinez. Martinez’s premier artist, Kleber illustrated the dasher board – sponsored in part by the Martinez Tribune – as a holiday gift to the community. An accomplished ice skater himself, Kleber said he was inspired by memories of his youth, having learned to skate in a setting very much like the one seen on this dasher board. Visitors to the ice rink on Ferry Street may get an up-close view of the piece from either the rink or the viewing platform just outside (see Page 4 for hours of operation). For more information on Kleber, visit www.artu4ia.com. (GERARDO RECINOS / Martinez Tribune)
