Fire sparks at marijuana grow house

MARTINEZ, Calif. – Firefighters battled a blaze at a marijuana grow house in Martinez last Thursday, according to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District officials.

The fire sparked in the garage of a home in the 1500 block of Ortega Drive just before 5 p.m. March 10. When fire crews arrived at the scene, the blaze had reached the exterior of the residence, according to Fire Marshal Robert Marshall. Crews were able to extinguish the fire at approximately 5:30 p.m.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. An estimated $15,000 of damage was incurred.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
