Obituary: Nina Louise Sparacino (1918-2021)

On the rainy morning of October 21, 2021, our beloved “Auntie Nina” went to join her family in heaven. She lived through more history than any of us could ever imagine.

She experienced WWI and WWII, not to mention the Korean, Vietnam, Desert Storm and Gulf Wars. She lost her beloved brother, “Uncle Frank” in the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944, as well as her brother’s “Uncle Joe”, who served in the Navy, “Uncle Pete”, who served in the Army, and “Uncle John”, who also served in the Navy. Her brother Nunzio was involved in supplying the government with seafood and poultry for the armed forces. His dedication to the troops, and for the cause was never ending. The have all passed over the years, along with her sister, “Auntie Rose”, a true matriarch of the family, after the death of her parents.

Nina was a member of the Martinez Lioness Club, the Crafty Ladies of the Martinez Masonic Lodge, the YLI of the catholic church, and a devoted member of the many local community charities. She loved Martinez. Nina was born and raised here, in Martinez, and worked for Contra Costa County as the head secretary to the Social Services Department for over 40 years.

She is predeceased by her parents, Giuseppe and Anna Sparacino, her five brothers and her sister Rose who she loved dearly. She is survived by her nephew, Ron, her niece, Diana Sparacino Hogan (Tim), and her niece Janet, (Robert Sparacino, deceased), her nephew Richard Sparacino (Marge) and her nephew David Sparacino. She is also survived by many great, and great-great, nieces and nephews.

If you would like to make a donation in her memory, please contribute to Hospice East Bay, or you can donate to the charity of your choice.

Our heartfelt thanks to Irene and Andrew from Hospice East Bay, but especially our love and gratitude to Elena for her wonderful care and her love for Nina and her unending support for all of us.

Services will be held privately for immediate family only. Thank you for your respect.
