The San Diego Padres put an exclamation point on their three game weekend sweep from the Giants Sunday afternoon, jumping on Alex Cobb and two relievers on the way to a 10-1 win at Oracle Park to send San Francisco to their fourth straight loss.

Manny Machado greets Austin Nola at home during the Padres 10-1 win over the Giants at Oracle Park Sunday afternoon. Machado had four extra base hits, three doubles and a triple, for the first time in his career as San Diego completed a sweep of the three game series.
Manny Machado was a perfect 4–4 at the plate, raising his major-league leading average to .374, belting three doubles along with a triple to pace the Padres 17 hit attack. Machado became the eighth player in Padres history to have four extra-base hits in one game. Padres starter MacKenzie Gore (3-1, 2.06), in just his sixth Major League start, held the Giants to only three hits in six innings while striking out six to earn the win.
The Padres jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead when a Wil Myers single plated Machado who had doubled three batters earlier. They would add a run in the second on a pair of hits highlighted by an Austin Nola double, but it was the fourth when the wheels completely fell off for San Francisco.

San Diego’s MacKenzie Gore delivers a pitch during the Padres 10-1 win over the Giants Sunday. Gore was in control throughout, allowing just a run on three hits while striking out six in six innings to earn the win.
A two run double by Machado against John Brebbia stretched the lead to 5-0 before a ground-rule double by Myers stretched the lead to 7-0. The carnage continued with an additional three earned runs against Zack Littell before Giants manager Gabe Kapler threw in the towel by summoning outfielder Luis González to pitch the final two innings. González responded by retiring six of the seven batters he faced without allowing San Diego to pad their lead.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Giants with the New York Mets (28-15), who lead the NL East by eight games, coming in for a three game set starting tomorrow night. Alex Cobb (3-1, 5.61) will get the ball for the Giants against David Peterson (1-0, 1.89) in the opener at 6:45PM.
GAME NOTES:
San Diego finished their road trip 7-2, winning all three series. The Pads improved their road record to an MLB best 17-7, the best record in franchise history after 24 games.
The sweep was the Padres first in San Francisco against the Giants since September 2016.
The 28 homers the Giants pitching staff has allowed are the fewest in the Majors.
