Fight escalates; man shot

MARTINEZ, Calif. – An argument escalated into a dangerous fight Saturday morning, with one man the victim of a gunshot wound.

According to the Martinez Police Department, around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, two men began to argue outside a residence in the 700 block of Shell Avenue. The argument turned into a fight and the two men fell into a plate glass window, causing it to break and cut the two men.

The fiancé of one of the men, 46-year-old Martinez resident Dawn Iverson, allegedly ran to the aide of her fiancé, firing a pistol that struck the other man in the torso.

The man drove from the scene with his mother and were later contacted by Martinez Police. The man was transported to John Muir Hospital where he was treated; he is in stable condition.

Iverson was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez. She is being held on $50,000 bail.
