Willy Adames blasts a home run, his first of two on the day, in the first inning of the Giants 4-3 win over the Cubs Thursday afternoon at Oracle Park.

Willy Adames hit home runs in the first and sixth inning for his second two home run game of the week, driving in San Francisco’s first three runs, and Logan Webb struck out seven in seven innings to help lead the Giants to their fifth win in a row.

Chicago came in to Oracle Park having won six out of seven to cut their deficit behind the Brewers in the NL Central, but the Giants had their way with the Cubbies, outscoring them 21-8 in the three game series.

The Cubs started the scoring jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first, but Adames blasted a two run 430 foot homer to deep left center field in the bottom of the inning to give the Giants a 2-1 lead.

Dansby Swanson tied the game for Chicago with a solo home run in the second, and another solo blast by Michael Busch in the sixth gave the Cubs a 3-2 lead, before Adames belted his second homer of the day in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at three, setting the stage for Lee’s heroics in the ninth.

For Giants manager Bob Melvin, the walk off win was a throwback to the first part of the season. “We were doing that a lot early on,” he said. “And it just felt like any time we got into that position earlier in the season, we were going to win the game, especially here at home. Close game, that’s kind of our calling card.”

The win kept the Giants a half game ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks for third place in the NL West. San Francisco will now welcome the Baltimore Orioles into Oracle Park for a three game weekend series starting tomorrow. The Giants Robbie Ray (10-6, 2.93) is scheduled to take the mound against Baltimore’s Dean Kremer (9-9, 4.19) in the opener.

GAME NOTE:

Adames two homers extended the Giants home run streak to 11 straight games dating back to Aug. 17th.

The victory was the Giants 10th walk off win this season, tied with the Red Sox and Brewers for the most in the Majors.
