It’ll be really weird on Friday when the first pitch of the ball game will actually be the fourth of the at bat.

But whether it’ll still be junior Jordyn Eglite delivering the pitch remains to be seen. But don’t bet on the right-hander continuing his outing after Friday’s Alhambra Easter Tournament game was suspended in the top of the fifth inning.

After Eglite threw three straight pitches wide, pitching coach DaVallon Harper and the umpires met at the mound, then coach Daryl King joined and the umpires decided to enact a rain delay and gave 20 minutes for the rain to clear.

But it was clear that as the delay went on that the conditions would not improve. The rain itself didn’t fall to hard, but after being unable to sort out his mechanics and throwing three pitches that missed by a wide margin, it was clear that continuing the game would have been dangerous.

So the two teams left the field at Knowles Field with the Pittsburg Pirates up 1-0, having scored in the third inning.

Up to the point of the rain delay, the Bulldogs had only managed a single hit off of junior pitcher Dominic Aria. Only a triple off the bat of senior Matt Beck troubled the right-hander from Pittsburg.
Beck was stranded after reaching with two outs.

Pittsburg on the other hand was able to get Eglite into the stretch in every inning other than the fourth. But the junior did do well enough to make sure he kept the bats of the hot hitters for Pittsburg quiet and limit the damage.

Miguel Macias, who is hitting .537 so far in 2016, drove in the only run of the ball game (his 17th RBI of the season). Eglite did weather the storm by turning a situation where he had runners on second and third with no outs into only a one-run deficit.

He got the red-hot Macias to ground out, which drove in a run but settled Eglite down. He then struck out sophomores Isaiah Franklin and Christian Blevins to get out of the jam with little harm.

After Beck’s triple in the bottom of the third inning, only one hitter reach base, none by way of a hit for either team, but we all know that Bulldog time this year means the Dogs get going when their pushed against the wall.

The game is set to resume on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. according to athletic director Pat Ertola, as of Tribune deadline.
