Minister arrested on sexual assault charges

MARTINEZ, Calif. – A former Martinez resident and local minister was arrested this week on charges of sexual assault of a minor.

On Monday, April 18, the Martinez Police Department took a report of a female juvenile that had allegedly been sexually assaulted by a 29-year-old male over a three year period.

Detectives from Martinez Police and Pleasant Hill Police investigated the allegations, which ultimately led to the arrest of 32-year-old Fernando Maldonado of Concord.

Maldonado was arrested on numerous counts of sexual assault, including unlawful sexual intercourse with a juvenile less than 14 years of age.

After the arrest, several search warrants were served in Concord, Martinez and Pleasant Hill.

Maldonado is a former Martinez resident and previous minister at Morello Baptist Church in Martinez. Maldonado left the Morello Baptist Church and became a minister for the Grace Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill in 2014.

Maldonado is incarcerated at the Martinez Detention Facility, held on $725,000 bail. The investigation is ongoing.
