Two Martinez City Council seats up for grabs this November

With incumbent Martinez City Council member AnaMarie Avila Farias now in a run-off for the 5th District Supervisor’s seat on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, it appears that leaves not one but two seats up for grabs on the Martinez City Council for the November General Election.

The seat now held by Mark Ross is the other seat to be contested this Fall.

The reason Avila Farias’ seat on council is open is because her name cannot appear twice on the ballot.

Avila Farias could not be reached for comment for this story, but she has previously indicated that she would vacate her seat on the City Council if she made it to a run-off after the June 7 Primary Election stage of the race for Federal Glover’s supervisor seat.

No candidate on Tuesday in the 5th District contest achieved the 50-percent-plus-one vote threshold to win the seat outright.

July 18 is the first day when interested parties can file papers for the November election, and Aug. 12 is the deadline to file.
