Jane Baird Silva passed away October 10th surrounded by her family at the age of 95.
She was born in St. Mary’s, Ohio to James Richard and Mabel Baird and was raised in Greenville, Ohio. Jane met Donald Silva, now deceased, while serving in the U.S. Marines (’43-’45) at MCAS Miramar in San Diego. They were married in 1945 and made their home in Martinez.
She is survived by her four sons: William (Cathleen) of Petaluma, Richard (Cristina Galvez) of Martinez, Lawrence (Valerie Uyeda) of Walnut Creek, and James of Hubertus, Wisconsin. She had nine grandchildren: Jennifer Gunter, Thomas Silva, Laura Smith, Jessica Gillespie, Donald Silva, Angela Silva, Amanda Silva, Nikita Silva and Alex Pointer, and six great grandchildren.
Jane was one of six children and is survived by her brother Richard Baird of Kettering, Ohio. Sisters Beatrice, Mary Alice, Carolyn, and her twin Janice all preceded her in death.
She was active in the Women Marines Association, Martinez Historical Society, Loaves & Fishes and many other organizations.
Services will be held on Monday, Oct 22 at 10:30 am at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Martinez (606 Mellus St). Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Lafayette.
