Going out on the water without proper footwear is almost as bad as forgetting your fishing pole. Here are the clothing and accessories you need for fishing.
Fishing gear goes beyond rods, reels, and tackle. You’re not ready to go until you have the right garb on. Choosing suitable clothing and accessories ensures that a fishing trip is comfortable and increases safety. Here’s a list of the clothing and accessories you need for fishing.
Climate-Appropriate Wear
Your location and the time of year dictate what clothing you should don. For instance, you wouldn’t wear only a tank top when ice fishing. For hot, tropical climates, go with lightweight long-sleeved shirts to keep you as cool as possible while covering your skin to protect it against sun damage. When it’s chilly, go for synthetic materials that keep you warm while pulling moisture away from your skin, as cold sweat is dangerous.
Proper Footwear
Being stylish isn’t always the goal. You’ll want grippy sandals or water shoes instead of your favorite pair of sneakers for a fishing trip. These shoes will keep your feet grounded on slippery terrain. Even with rugged sandals, rips and tears are always a possibility, though. Therefore, it’s a good idea to have an extra pair of your chosen footwear onboard your boat just in case.
Polarized Sunglasses
Five-dollar Walmart sunglasses claiming to be polarized aren’t going to cut it. If you want to see the benefits of polarized shades, take the plunge and invest. Head to your local sports shop to get a high-quality pair designed specifically for your hobby. These will reduce the glare from the sun on the water so that you can see fish more clearly.
Fishing Hat
Picking the best clothing is a start, but choosing the perfect fishing hat will take you the rest of the way in your effort to avoid sun damage. Most fishing trips place you under harsh UV rays for hours on end. So, don’t neglect the importance of sun protection. Also, slather on a bit of sunscreen to be safe!
You’ll be ready to catch yourself a whopper once you have the clothing and accessories you need for fishing. Just make sure you remember to bring along your rod!
