Obituary: Manuel Ferrao Jr. (1931-2023)

Manuel Ferrao Jr., aged 92, passed away in his sleep on Friday, the 20th of August. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Manuel is survived by his sister Laura Menzies, and his devoted children, Richard Ferrao and Kathleen Poppleton, and his grandchildren, Ryan, Tara, Augustus, and Steven. A dedicated and honorable veteran, Manuel served his country during the Korean War. While stationed in Tokyo, Japan, he fell ill, which is when he met his wife of 54 years, Tomie.

Manuel also enjoyed a fulfilling 38 year career at the Shell Oil Company, where his hard work and dedication made a lasting impact. He was known for his diligence and professionalism, leaving an indelible mark on those he worked with long after retirement. Beyond his professional achievements, Manuel was a loving husband and father who provided unwavering support and guidance to his children.

His life with Tomie was a constant adventure, with trips around the globe and socializing with their many friends from around the country. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him and the mantra he lived by: “Live Hard, Play Hard.” Manuel spent the majority of his life living by these words.

In this time of sorrow, we remember Manuel Ferrao Jr. for his courage, dedication, and the love he shared with his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the honor of being part of his life.
