New York Mets hurler Kodai Senga delivers a pitch on the way to a seven shutout inning effort against the Athletics in Sacramento during the Mets 8-0 win Sunday afternoon.

Bouncing back from an injury plagued 2024 season, Senga only needed 79 pitches to complete his second consecutive scoreless outing following a five inning effort against Miami six days ago.

Luis Severino (1-2, 4.01) had a solid outing for Sacramento, only allowing one run in 5 2/3 innings, throwing 103 pitches and exiting with the game still very much in the balance, trailing only 1-0.

New York (10-5) broke open the game after the A’s went to their bullpen, having their way with relievers Noah Murdock, Jose’ LeClerc and Jason Alexander. A one out double in the seventh by Francisco Lindor plated the Mets second run before three walks by Murdock, the first intentional, padded the lead to 3–0.

An eighth inning triple by Tyrone Taylor followed by a LeClerc balk stretched the lead before New York broke open the game with a four run outburst against Alexander in the ninth.

Francisco Lindor belts a seventh inning RBI double during the Mets 8-0 win over the Athletics at Sutter Health Park Sunday afternoon.

Appearing to stage target practice, Vientos followed a lead off single by Brandon Nimmo with a booming RBI double to deep left center before Torrens double stretched the Mets lead to 6–0. A Brett Baty triple scored Torrens before an awkward uncustomary fielding error by A’s shortstop Jacob Wilson allowed Baty to score the final New York run. Finally settling down, Alexander induced a double play and a Lindor fly out to escape the inning long after the damage had been done.

The Sacramento bats were mostly silent on the day aside from Lawrence Butler who stroked three hits including a double. But the A’s could only muster two other singles.

After the game, the Athletics departed for a six game road trip which will take them to the south side of Chicago, followed by three games in Milwaukee against the Brewers. Jeffrey Springs is scheduled to take the mound for the A’s in the opener Tuesday night against Sean Burke of the White Sox.

GAME NOTES:

A game ending strikeout by Jacob Wilson ended his season long 15 game hitting streak.

At 6-10, Sacramento sits in last place in the AL West, 3.5 games behind the division leading Angels and 1.5 games behind the fourth place Houston Astros.
