Rafael Devers blasted a third inning pitch from former teammate Brayan Bello into the left field bleachers for a two run home run, his first as a Giant, to help lead San Francisco to a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox behind six innings of shut out baseball from Landen Roupp Saturday afternoon.

Rafael Devers connects for a two run third inning home run against the Red Sox, his former team, to help lead the Giants to a 3-2 win over Boston Saturday afternoon at Oracle Park in San Francisco.

Devers, who was just traded to San Francisco from the Red Sox five games ago, was credited with the game winning RBI, staked the Giants to a lead they barely held on to following some sketchy pitching by Camilo Doval, who nearly blew the three run lead the Giants held for most of the fast paced game before settling down to retire the final two batters, stranding the tying run at third.

Devers heroics nearly overshadowed a fine pitching performance by Roupp (5-5, 3.67). Bouncing back from giving up six runs in just 1.2 innings in his last start in Los Angeles, Roupp held the Red Sox scoreless for six innings, striking out seven Boston batters before exiting after 90 pitches. Randy Rodriguez and Tyler Rogers each pitched scoreless frames in relief.

Camilo Doval lets out a sigh of relief after escaping a ninth inning jam to record a save in the Giants 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox.

Heliot Ramos got the Giants on the board with a solo blast in the first inning, his 13th homer of the season. The two long balls were the only blemishes on an otherwise well pitched game by Bello (3-2, 3.31).

The two teams will play the rubber match of the weekend series tomorrow at 1:05pm with Robbie Ray (8-2, 2.68) going for his league leading ninth win against Boston’s Lucas Giolito (3-1, 4.73).
