With great sadness, the family of John Mayne shares that John passed away suddenly in Lone Tree, Colorado on July 3rd, 2026. John was born in Antioch in 1944 to John Mayne Sr. and Juanita Wallgren Mayne and grew up in West Pittsburg. He graduated from the old Pacifica High School there with the Class of 1962.
After high school, John worked as a lab technician for Shell Oil Company in Martinez, California, before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1965. John married his high school sweetheart, Carmen Jimenez Mayne, in 1966, and the newlyweds left California for Montgomery, Alabama, where John was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. During the Vietnam War, John spent his last year of military service assigned to the 556th Civil Engineering Squadron (RED HORSE) at U-Tapao Airfield near Bangkok, Thailand.
Upon returning to the United States in 1969, John began his career in water treatment, working as a Water Treatment Operator for Contra Costa Water District and the City of Martinez. He would then work at the Antioch Water Treatment Plant, where he retired in 2003. In 2021 John and Carmen left their native California and moved to Castle Rock, Colorado.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carmen. With much pride, he leaves behind his sons, John III (Aracely) of Arizona, Matthew (Kimberly) of Colorado, and David (Fiona) of Idaho.
John also leaves five beloved granddaughters: Jenna and Carly Mayne of Arizona, Cali and Mia Mayne of Colorado, and Lumen Mayne of Idaho, all so dear to his heart. John is also survived by his sister, Janice Farrow of Clovis. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Juanita Mayne, and his sister, Sandra Robertson.
A memorial service, where John will be laid to rest, will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette.
