MARTINEZ, Calif. – A Concord woman died Saturday afternoon after being struck by her own car, then another.
The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. Jan. 16 near the Alhambra Avenue exit on Highway 4.
According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), 19-year-old Alexandria Garcia was driving her blue 2009 Mazda 3 westbound on the highway when she struck the center median. Garcia exited her vehicle, and shortly thereafter, a Buick Riviera struck Garcia’s vehicle, sending it into Garcia, who was pushed onto the highway’s second lane.
The Buick flipped, crashed into the median, and came to rest upside-down on the guardrail, CHP said.
Meanwhile, Garcia lay on the freeway, and according to CHP, was struck by a 1999 Honda Civic.
Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. As of presstime, an autopsy had not been conducted, but according to a release from the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office, drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been a factor in the accident.
Garcia was a graduate of Concord High School and a lifeguard at Waterworld California.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information related to the incident is encouraged to call CHP at (925) 646-4980.
