The building at 615 Estudillo St. in downtown Martinez undergoes demolition Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016. The building, which formerly housed the Martinez News-Gazette (no affiliation), was structurally frail; its owner, Al Susini, told the Tribune last Wednesday that the lot would be used for parking. The neighboring property, currently boarded up and unretrofitted, was the home of “Victoria’s Cafe” before a 2013 fire consumed its second floor. That property owner, Rick Johnson, had no comment about the future of his building or lot. (HANNAH HATCH / Martinez Tribune)

So sad to see any historic building demolished rather than retrofitted or rebuilt!
