City appoints new manager

MARTINEZ, Calif. – The Martinez City Council has announced the appointment of a new city manager.

Brad Kilger, who has served as the city manager of Benicia since 2010, will assume his position with the City of Martinez June 13.

“Brad (Kilger) brings to us the perfect blend of professional experience, and creative leadership,” said Martinez Mayor Rob Schroder.

Kilger was selected from a candidate pool of about 40 that emerged from a national search conducted by Bob Murray and Associates, who undertook a formal recruitment process for the City.

A graduate of the University of California-Riverside with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Sciences & Urban Studies, Kilger received his MBA from California State University-San Bernardino. He has over 37 years of professional municipal government experience working for large and medium-sized jurisdictions, with specific expertise in city management, economic development and land use planning.

Kilger is a member of the International City/County Management Association and the California City Manager’s Foundation, certified with the American Institute of Certified Planners and previously served as President of the City Manager’s Department for the League of California Cities.

In addition to having a rich history and dynamic cultural environment, the City and its residents are very committed to enhancing the community’s overall quality of life, promoting economic development and ensuring its long-term social, fiscal, and environmental sustainability.  These are values I also hold very high and I look forward to working with the City Council, staff, the citizens and local business owners in achieving these goals,” said Kilger.

Kilger is married to Linda, his wife of 38 years. They have two grown children and one grandson. He and his family are life-long outdoor enthusiasts.
