Tribune Athlete of the Week: BRIANA PEREZ
Alhambra High School senior Briana Perez is this week’s Tribune Athlete of the Week.
Perez is leading the way for the Bulldogs in her senior season, just as many expected her to do so after an offseason where the UCLA-committed short stop was named to the junior U.S. Women’s National Team training team, and also named the number one high school softball player in the country by FloSoftball.
Sometimes it seems hard to think a kid could live up to the hype, but Perez is proving that it is possible.
She currently leads the Bulldogs with an astounding .667 batting average, and even more ridiculous is her .733 on base percentage and OPS that tops 2.006.
With three home runs and 18 RBIs from the number two spot in Paul Buccellato’s line up, Perez is making the case pretty strong for the Bulldogs going back to another North Coast Section title game, despite moving up to the tougher Division I playoffs after three consecutive Division II titles.
Before she leaves Alhambra, Perez will have one last chance to achieve for the Bulldogs what few schools in the area have done. To leave a legacy and a dynasty behind. A fourth title would cement that status.
