Minnesota Lynx downs Valkyries 86-75 with dominant second half

The Minnesota Lynx stretched their season opening winning streak to seven games with a dominant second half performance against the Valkyries Sunday evening, scoring a 86-75 win at Chase Center in the first meeting between the two WNBA clubs.

Golden State took a 52-51 lead into the locker room at half time, but the more balanced Lynx squad took the lead less than two minutes into the third quarter and never relinquished it the rest of the way.

Minnesota (7-0) was led by Napheesa Collier with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Courtney Williams added 20 with five rebounds and five assists while Kayla McBride pitched in 16 points with six boards and six assists.

The Valkyries were paced by Veronica Burton’s 21 points in 24 minutes on 7-11 shooting from the floor to go along with five assists. Kate Martin added a career high 14 and Kayla Thornton chipped in 11.

Golden State (2-4) returns to action Thursday night with a game in Phoenix against the Mercury.
