Logan Webb pitched eight strong innings and Matt Chapman hit a two run home run to lead the Giants to a 5-1 win over the Chicago Cubs Sunday afternoon.

Giants starter Logan Webb ( R ) congratulates Jung Hoo Lee for a run saving catch in right field to end the eighth inning during the Giants 5-1 win over the Cubs Sunday afternoon.
Webb (4-4, 3.46) never allowed more than one runner on base in an inning until the eighth, striking out seven and not walking a batter while throwing 106 pitches. An outstanding catch by Jung Hoo Lee on the warning track in right field off the bat of the Cubs Michael Busch with a runner on second and two outs in the eighth allowed Webb to end his day on a high note by making an incredible running catch before crashing into the wall to rob Busch of extra bases.
“No matter how that play goes, it’s a phenomenal outing for Webby,” Giants manager Tony Vitello said. “But Jung Hoo kind of put an exclamation point on it.” Lee added thru an interpreter, “I just knew that Webby wanted to finish the inning bad. I was out there watching him. I wanted to really help out, so I got that catch out there in the outfield.”

Matt Chapman connects for a two run home run in the fifth inning of San Francisco’s 5-1 win over the Cubs Sunday afternoon at Oracle Park.
Chapman provided Webb all the runs he would need with his fifth inning two run blast to deep centerfield that extended San Francisco’s lead to 3-0. RBI singles by Bryce Eldridge and Daniel Susac gave the giants their final two runs.
An RBI single by Alex Bregman in the eighth gave Chicago their only run. Caleb Kilian came on to pitch a scoreless ninth to help the Giants salvage the final game of the weekend series.
With a 2-4 homestand against the Nationals and Cubs now behind them, the Giants will now head back east for a six-game road trip in Atlanta and Miami. Robbie Ray (5-5, 4.42) is scheduled to face Grant Holmes (4-2, 4.05) in the opener Tuesday evening.
