Robbie Ray delivers a pitch during the Giants 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres Thursday afternoon at Oracle Park.

Ray (8-1, 2.44) held San Diego to four hits, only allowing a two run home run by Manny Machado (the 350th of his career) as he tied for the Major League lead in wins. Ray retired 11 batters in a row following Machado’s homer.

Randy Rodriguez held the Pads in check in the eighth with two strikeouts before Camilo Doval came on in the ninth to record his eighth save.

Machado’s third inning home run staked the Padres to a 2–0 lead, but it would be all the offense San Diego could muster on the day in what turned out to be a pitchers duel between Ray and Dylan Cease (1-5, 4,72)

Matt Chapman and Jung Hoo Lee celebrate at home plate after each scored on Dominic Smith’s third inning double during the Giants 3-2 win over San Diego Thursday afternoon.

San Francisco bounced right back in the bottom of the third with a three run rally to take the lead that would prove decisive. An RBI sacrifice fly by Willy Adames produced the Giants first run. Two batters later a two run RBI ground rule double by Smith would give San Francisco all of the runs they would need.

The Giants well now welcome the Atlanta Braves for a three game weekend series. Hayden Birdsong (3-1, 2.37) is scheduled to face Atlanta’s Spencer Schwellenbach (4-4, 3.13) in the opener.

All The Best,
