She was born on February 23, 1932 in Oakland, to the late Thelma Ruth and William Fredrick Beisley. Known by her family and friends as Joyce, she graduated from Fremont High School in 1950 and later attended Chabot College. She was married on September 19, 1953, to loving husband Stanley Tolerton. She spent many hours helping her children, babysitting her grandchildren, serving as caregiver for her brother-in-law, driving a friend in need, listening to others, and being present during difficult times. Joyce also loved to travel. She thoroughly enjoyed her trips to China, Washington DC, New York, Mexico, England, and back to France.

Over the years, Joyce worked as a secretary for Metropolitan Life Insurance, Alameda County Court House, California Built-In Supply, and MACK Truck. Joyce also enjoyed sewing, camping in Yosemite, reading, solving crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, going to casinos, and sports. She was a huge fan of the Oakland Raiders and Athletics, and any sport involving her grandchildren.

Joyce was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in San Lorenzo, the treasurer of Bosom Buddies (Breast Cancer Support Group) and of the Pinole Pocahontas Club.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Stana Capron (husband Mark); her son, Steven Tolerton; grandchildren, Evana Silva (husband Bobby), Veronica Vorva (husband Will), Melissa Tolerton, and William Tolerton; great-grandchildren, Lanah and Kai Silva. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Tolerton; son, Marky Tolerton; daughter-in-law, Susan Tolerton; brother, William Beisley; and many beloved family members and friends.
