Tampa Bay’s Civale shuts down Giants as Rays take series 6-1

Aaron Civale pitched six shutout innings for Tampa Bay as the Rays took the rubber match of their three-game series with the Giants 6-1 at Oracle Park Wednesday afternoon.

The loss ended a disappointing 2-4 homestand for San Francisco, but the Giants remain in the thick of the NL Wild Card chase, 1.5 Games behind the Phillies for the top spot.

Civale (6-3, 2.44) recorded his first win for Tampa, serving up four double play balls in just his third start for the Rays since coming over at the trade deadline from Cleveland.

Josh Lowe, Brandon Lowe and Luke Raley all homered for Tampa Bay off of Ross Stripling, who gave up five runs and 11 hits after coming on to pitch for the Giants in the second inning.

After the game San Francisco headed out for a six game road trip to Atlanta and Philadelphia. Alex Cobb (6-4, 3.62) is scheduled to face Major League strikeout leader Spencer Strider (13-4, 3.75) and the Braves in the opener Friday night at 4:20 PM.
